Today I am on the fourth and final entry about the lengthy list of deadly
Atlanta car accidents that occurred in 2009. After this entry, I will
organize some of the data that I have gleaned from the federal Fatality
Analysis Reporting System (FARS) database in order to look at particular
categories and trends in these wrecks. As an Atlanta car crash lawyer,
it of course makes sense that I want to know about these facts, but it
also makes sense for us to face this data as a city, in hopes that we
can improve our record and make our roads safer.
I am using the FARS data as published by the
City-Data.com website. September brought 5 more deaths from car accidents in Atlanta,
and four of the five people killed were pedestrians. The first pedestrian
death occurred just six days into the month, on September 6, 2009. A pedestrian
was killed while crossing at the intersection of Boulevard and Cassanova
St. The accident occurred at 11:54 p.m.
Three days later, on September 9, 2009, an accident occurred at the intersection
of Ponce De Leon Ave. and Ponce De Leon Place here in the city of Atlanta.
A driver who was listed as driving under the influence crashed his car
at 2:26 a.m. No other vehicle was involved in the car wreck, and no pedestrian
was listed as being involved.
However, the next three accidents all involved deaths of pedestrians on
Atlanta roads. On September 10, 2009, a pedestrian was killed at the Atlanta
intersection of Cleveland Ave. and Browns Mill Rd. The accident happened
at 9:40 p.m.
On September 15, 2009, another pedestrian was killed at the juncture of
Hobart Dr. and Vanderbilt Ct. at 2:46 p.m. in the afternoon.
Yet a third pedestrian was killed in the month of September. On September
29, a pedestrian walking along Campbellton Road was struck and killed
at 6:20 a.m.
One person was killed in a two-car crash on October 6, 2009. The accident
happened in the afternoon, at 4:14 p.m., at the corner of Northside Dr.
and Green St.
November brought three more deadly crashes to Atlanta. The first took place
on Sylvan Rd. on November 10, 2009. The single-vehicle accident occurred
at 8:41 a.m.
Two days later, a person was killed in another single-vehicle crash, this
one on the Atlanta side of Paces Ferry Road. The wreck occurred in the
early hours of the day, at 2:46 a.m.
On November 21, 2009, a drunk driver caused a two-car collision at 3:10
a.m. on I-20 in the city limits of Atlanta.
The city of Atlanta wrapped up the year with three more deadly car crashes.
The month’s first death from a car wreck happened on December 6,
at 7:16 at night. The accident involved two vehicles that crashed on I-75.
Two days later, another deadly accident happened on I-75. This time, two
vehicles crashed at 2:50 a.m., leaving one person dead.
The final car wreck death for Atlanta’s year took place at 5:31 p.m.
in the evening. The accident, which involved only one car, happened on
Moreland Ave. / SR-42 on December 15, 2009. The driver of that one vehicle
was killed.
