TRAGIC CAR FATALITIES IN AMERICUS, GEORGIA
When someone dies in a car accident, the tragedy has serious emotional and sometimes financial effects on the person’s family, friends, co-workers, and sometimes employees. Unfortunately, statistics show that Americus has had a number of horrific, fatal car accidents over the last 25 years. On May 17, 2007, at 8:37 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed by a drunken driver on Horton Drive.
On October 2, 2006, one person was killed in a four-vehicle collision involving a drunk driver. The car crash happened on N Jackson St. at 11:20 a.m.
Americus had a shocking three fatal car wrecks in 2004. On February 12, 2004, at 6:51 p.m., one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US-280 (SR 27) and Sun Valley Dr. The two vehicles had a total of 5 passengers between them. On August 2, 2004, at 8:26 a.m., Americus lost another person in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 30. The driver of the vehicle was killed. Unfortunately, the bad news was not yet over for the year. On September 27, 2004, another person was killed in a single-vehicle accident on 299, at 8:25 p.m. at night.
In 2001, another person was killed on US-280 (SR 30) in Americus. Two cars crashed and one person was killed in the car wreck.
In 2000, Americus lost two people in car crashes on its streets. Both accidents occurred in the same month and on the same street. One person was killed in a two-car accident that occurred on March 1, 2000, at 11:51 a.m. The accident occurred on SR-377. A second accident occurred on that same road on March 22, 2000, at 8:28 p.m. A pedestrian walking along SR-377 was killed when a car struck him.
In 1997, Americus experienced two fatal car crashes, both involving pedestrians. On January 5, 1997, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on State Road 377 at 2:31 a.m. On April 15, 1997, a second pedestrian was killed when a vehicle hit the pedestrian on 49 at 5:58 p.m.
In 1995, one person was killed in a single-vehicle crash that involved a drunken driver. The accident happened on July 16, 1995, but the road on which it happened is not given.
A person died in a two-vehicle car crash on State Road 3, on March 28, 1994, at 2:54 p.m.
