Attorney Lee Wallace recently represented Mr. Robert Martin in a
False Claims Act lawsuit. Martin is a former employee of defense contracting giant L-3,
who blew the whistle on the company for overbilling the government for
military training received from the government for L-3 employees before
being deployed. The week-long training is received at CONUS Replacement
Centers ( CRCs) at either Fort Bliss, TX or Fort Benning, GA.

According to the public settlement agreement, the Department of Justice
says that, during the special military training before deployment, L-3
told its employees to bill the time it took the entire group to finish
training each day instead of individual training times. L-3 allegedly
gathered all the trainees into a classroom at the end of the day, found
out who had been in training the longest, and then had everyone record
that same time as the time they finished their training that day, too.

Attorney Wallace is quoted as saying:

“They were there to get trained about working in a combat zone and
how to avoid IEDs [improvised explosive devices]. They weren’t there
to learn how to fraudulently inflate their hours.”

Attorney Wallace described Mr. Martin as “basically the perfect whistleblower”
because Martin had gone through the CRC training three different times,
twice in Texas and once in Georgia. Martin noticed the odd patterns and
brought the matter to Wallace in order to file suit.

L-3 has since agreed to pay
$4.63 million to the U.S. Government, as well as
$798,675 to Martin for his role in pursuing reimbursement for the U.S. Government and
$186,400.56 in attorneys’ fees.
